Death toll rises to 11 in Ujirpur Bus accident

Nobokontho24: Eleven passengers, including children, were killed when the reckless bus lost control and collided with a tree. Another 25 passengers were injured in the incident.

 

This was confirmed by Oc Ali Arshad of Ujirpur police station. He said the bodies of 11 people have been taken out so far after cutting the bus. The rescue operation is still going on.

 

The accident took place at 6 am on Sunday (May 29) when a bus of Yamuna Line transport lost control at Shanuhar in Ujirpur upazila on Barisal-Dhaka highway.

 

Police said the car was travelling from Dhaka to Bhandaria. When it reached Shanuhar in Ujirpur upazila of Barisal district, it lost control and collided with a tree. Rescue operations are still underway to rescue passengers from inside the bus. Police fear the death toll could rise further.

 

Officer-in-charge of Ujirpur police station Ali Arshad said the rescued injured have been sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, while three more deaths were reported while undergoing treatment, two units of fire services of Ujirpur and Gaur rivers are working to rescue those trapped inside the vehicle.
