Nobokontho24:: Bangladesh last lost the home series in 2016. After that, seven years passed. Finally, after a long time, the Tigers got the bitter taste of losing the home series after losing two consecutive matches to England.
England scored 326 runs for seven wickets at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday (March 3). In response, Bangladesh were all out for 194 runs in 44.4 overs. The Tigers lost by 132 runs.
Bangladesh got off to a nightmare start chasing runs. Litton Das was dismissed on the first ball of the innings. Najmul Hossain Shanto was caught by Buttler on the next ball. Sam Curran, who had taken the previous two wickets, returned Mushfiqur Rahim in his next over.
Bangladesh went to the edge of the abyss after losing three wickets for just 9 runs. From there, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal struggled to handle the disaster. The duo put on a 79-run partnership before being dismissed.
When Bangladesh is dreaming of returning to the match with the pair of Shakib-Tamim, the Tiger opener returned to the dugout. Shakib got out shortly after Tamim returned for 35 runs. The all-rounder scored 58 runs before returning to the dressing room.
Mahmudullah Riyad’s 32 or Afif Hossain’s innings of 23 runs were not enough to meet the team’s demands. In the end, Taskin Ahmed’s 21-run innings only narrowed the margin of defeat.
Sam Curran and Adil Rashid both took four wickets for England. Besides, Moeen Ali took one wicket.
